Since the 12th century, specialty paper made from the fiber of the Lokta bush has been used in Nepal to write epic tales, to print mantra for prayer wheels, and for religious texts chanted by Buddhist monks. Strong and durable, it is still used for land ownership papers and legal documents. This tree free paper is produced using only fair trade practices, providing steady revenue to the artisans of Nepal’s rural villages and urban areas. The naturally cream-colored sheets are made by hand in a wooden frame before being colored, block printed and/or silk screened with eye-catching designs.
